The making of the Shirley Price
Roman, German Chamomile,
Melissa and Yarrow (origin
England)
The Shirley Price Collection is a showcase for English
Essential Oils and Aromatic Waters. Sp's Chamomile
traditional soothing moisturising cream is made with
certified organic ingredients. The anti-inflammatory
properties of chamomile (chamazulene) are well
documented. (Guenther Vol II p133).
Sp's Comfrey and Yarrow cream is a traditional remedy
with Comfrey traditionally providing renewal (alantoin
from Comfrey was identified as an active incredient in
cell renewal in 1912) and yarrow emotional repair.
Melissa grows well in England. Englands oldest man
ever attributed his longevity and mental alertness to a
daily cup of tea made from fresh melissa leaves from
his garden!
Sp and our customers are faced with rising prices and
poor availability of oils produced in drought affected
countries we provide low cost oils as well from England
which certainly does not suffer from drought! It rains a
lot. Warmer summers in the last decade has been
ideal conditions for the growth of Chamomile and
Melissa in England and Eire.
Besides French oils Sp provide Roman, German
Chamomile and Melissa from Norfolk England. This
same oil is used by Bodyshop in certain of their
products (BodyShop literature). This oil does not carry
organic certification but is made locally by respected
distiller-growers from carefully tended fresh crops of
chamomile (not from the dried flowers) and melissa.
Some hospitals and therapists prefer this oil which is
chemically identical to oil twice the price relying on the
fact that pesticides and fertilisers are not volatile so
while they may be present in the distilled floral water of
a non organic crop they will not be present in the oil..
The anti-inflamatory property of chamomile is thought
to be due to chamazulene (Guenther II p133 Pommer
Path Phamakol which imparts a blue colour to both
roman chamomile (this fades) and german chamomile.
You can therefore see in the pictures why we prefer
this oil which displays a very satisfactory blue colour
being harvested from the fresh rather than dry flowers
and being suited to these stills.
Several areas in England and Eire produce these oils.
Sp's distiller/growers
“As a family business Sp works continuously to improve
our products and we can recognise the same ideal in
our distiller growers whether they are in china, vietnam,
thailand, australia, india, egypt, morocco, france,
turkey, bulgaria, UK and Eire or the americas. These
operations are rural family affairs and their success
depends on hard work and continuous attention to
detail.
We aim to inspect distillation plants and satisfy
ourselves as to their owners and operators diligence,
expertise and commitment. Students and customers
may be interested to see the photo gallery below of a
visit to Pates Farm, Norfolk (Chamomile) and
Cawthorpe hall, Lincoln (Rosewater)."

Rose water
"We receive our organic rose water from france as a
byproduct of the production of the rose oil.
Unfortunately the process of extracting rose oil is so
efficient that some Sp customers find commercial rose
water lacks many of the water soluable elements which
make up the finest rose water and cannot vaporise the
rose water they have.
We also import this product in dehydrated form from
Turkey but it struck me this is not what our more
discriminating therapists are looking for as they place
great store on products being as natural and receiving
as little processing as possible. That is the standard if it
is to be included in the Shirley Price Collection. I am
pleased to say I was successful in finding a very
satisfactory source of fresh hydrodistilled rose water in
the UK with Damascena roses grown in England on a
holding of 8 acres distilled on the farm in Lincoln. My
visit is pictured below. Students will note the unusual
transparent condenser picture showing a coiled tube of
cold tap water surrounding the condensate"
Directions: Apply daily morning and evening.

The active part of lavender
is the volatile oil with
relaxing, sedative,
antispasmodic and antiseptic
and insect inhibiting
properties.
In aromatherapy the whole
oil shows synergies when
used with other oils for
particular specific effects in
skincare and in the
treatment of common
ailments.
The oil can be used
topically, used in baths or
inhaled from a diffuser or
aroma stick
It is advised that topical
preparations be tested on a
small area of skin before
widespread application.
Lavender has traditionally
been used for pleasure,
sleep disorders, anxiety, as
well as to treat minor cuts
and bruises and insect bites
and is commonly found in
cosmetics and toiletaries.
Lavender contains
substances which are being
tested for cancer prevention.

Shirley Price Collection Lavender
No visit to Norfolk England is complete without calling in
at Norfolk Lavender. The garden contains many
flowers. There is an interesting french still displayed
and of course an ultra modern distillation plant.
Lavender has been farmed here for many years. When
the USA was cut off from continental sources of supply
the crop of Lavender was thought so valuable as a
source of foreign exchange that it received a military
guard.
Sp's premium lavender for the Shirley Price Collection
comes from France and Bulgaria and carries organic
certification.

What is truely magical about provencal lavender is not on
the site and smell but the sound. Hives are kept nearby
many fields so honeybees in their millions harvest the
lavender for honey. The buzz!!!
