Aromatherapy safety - Daily Mail article There is an extract from a Daily Mail
Article dated 21st October 2011 on aromatherapy safety on this link.
For journalists researching articles like this I recommend Robert
Tisserands excellent website on essential oil safety www.RobertTisserand.
com. Robert Tisserand brings his weekend seminar to Warwick University,
UK on May 12,13 2012, details www.purearomatherapy.com.
Shirley Price Aromatherapy is delighted to support and sponsor research,
international forums and educational events on the safe use of essential
oils and seminar publications with international contributors such as the
forthcoming Aromatherapy - Treat or Treatment?
All reputable essential oil suppliers, Shirley Price Aromatherapy included,
provide safety information with every essential oil supplied to the public
in barcoded boxes with additional safety information on bottle labels.
Suppliers of fresh season organic oils include www.Tisserand.com, www.
ShirleyPriceAromatherapy.co.uk and www.Absolute-Aromas.com.
Professional Aromatherapists, among them 6000 who have studied with
the Shirley Price International College of Aromatherapy, follow a rigourous
course of study under experienced and qualified tutors spanning one
academic year. The spectrum of aromatherapy includes complementary,
beauty and sports use often associated with therapeutic massage. More
information is to be found on the practitioner federation websites FHT,
IFPA, IFA and those of national associations worldwide.
The Shirley Price Aromatherapy Diploma is accredited by the Federation of
Holistic Therapists the UK and Eire's largest and oldest established
practicioner body with 20,000 members across the spectrum of
complementary therapies. In July 2012 the FHT celebrates its 50 years of
service with a congress in Gaydon, Warwickshire, UK. See you there!
Clinical aromatherapy. Some 32 essential oils are cleared for use in
aromatherapy treatments to relive nausea, headaches and fight infection
in over 40 american hospitals and many UK hospitals and hospices. While
there is increasing recognition of the value of traditional practices in the
West not all hospices and hospitals wish to include aromatherapy and
complementary therapies in their nursing and midwifery treatment policy
and procedures. Where this is the case practicioners must not offer
aromatherapy treatments in any circumstances. This is in the interests of
patient, practicioner and the hospital or hospice. The college tutors are
always happy to hear from practicioners wanting advice on this area.
Contact details of locally active qualified practitioners can be found on the
FHT, IFA and IFPA websites. The picture in the article below which
appears on the Company's DVD Aromatherapy was not supplied by us. The
article raises amongst other issues the issue of dosage of essential oils.
Essential oils should always be used with care and less is more where
essential oils are concerned. Only the faintest aroma should be
detectable where essential oils are used in a diffuser. Only as few as 20
molecules are required for human olfaction and where oils are diffused for
their properties at times of viral infection excessive quantities can
diminish the desired effect.

Seminar Description
Essential oils are both complex and multi-functional,
simultaneously acting as, for example, antibiotics and
antidepressants. They contain many important
bioactive constituents, and this complexity allows for
both synergistic and antagonistic effects. Synergy is a
manifestation of the efficiency of nature, combining
substances for an enhanced outcome.
Clinical aspects covered include radiation damage
(whether from therapeutic or accidental exposure) skin
safety, bedsores & wound healing, antibiotic-resistant
infections, preventive measures for sun damage and
skin cancer, and pain of different origins. Many clinical
studies are referred to in detail.
The seminar is for those with some previous
knowledge of essential oils and aromatherapy, and
who want to take their understanding to a deeper level.
Most of the seminar is lecture format with slides.

WELCOME TO SHIRLEY PRICE AROMATHERAPY!
Notes to editors
Aromatherapy is a treatment method which uses essential oils
extracted from flowers, plants trees or spices. These are
massaged into the body, ihaled, sprinkled in baths or sometimes
ingested under medical supervision.
Aromatic substances are widely used in traditional medicine
worldwide. They were used in healing throughout the ancient
world notably by the egyptans who buried jars of frankincense
and myrhh alongside their pharohs in their tombs, and who used
the same perfumes for cosmetic and medical effect.proponents
of aromatherapy have to this day developed the art for purposes
as diverse as the healing of wounds, clinical treatments and
banishing wrinkles.
The Essential oils used in aromatherapy are highly concentrated
and have to be extracted from large quantities of the mother
plant. They are expensive to buy and need to be stored at the
right conditions and temperature. , and these factors place some
limitation on the popular use of aromatherapy. The oils are
absorbed into the body through the skin. Although it is not fully
known how aromatherapy works it may be the method of
application used in aromatherapy enhances the therapeutic
effect of the oils.
The practicioner will decide on the essential oils which will be
most effective for the client. Inhalation is used for the treatment
of head and lung complaints. About six to ten treatments will be
required although the beneficial effects may be felt earlier. As
might be expected aromatherapy is most effectively used in the
treatment of the skin, healing wounds and burns, treating
shingles, acne and conditions relating to stress. The massage
with which the oils are applied adds to the therapeutic effects of
the treatment.
Practicioners offer aromatherapy, holistic skincare and
reflexology and may be skilled in other complementary therapies
or be medically qualified as doctors, nurses or midwives.
Local Therapists may be found on the websites of the
professional practicioner associations, yell.com or the CNHC
register.
